Areas of Practice: Substance Abuse evaluations (DUI, & other legal issues, employment positive drug screen, etc.), Department of Transportation evaluations, Mental Health evaluations, Anger/Domestic Violence evaluations. Individual mental health and substance abuse/dependence therapy with ages 12 and up, with a cognitive behavioral and solution oriented approach. Areas of focus include treatment of substance abuse/dependence, mood & anxiety disorders, personality disorders, and family conflict.

Summer Olsen is a full time therapist with Veridian Behavioral Health and has been with the agency since 2008. She is also an adjunct professor at Kansas Wesleyan University and Bethany College. She graduated from Wichita State University with a Bachelor of Science in Psychology and a minor in music. She obtained her Master’s Degree from Emporia State University in Clinical Psychology. Her thesis was on state and trait anxiety and how they are affected by relaxation response through guided imagery and meditation. She worked for seven years at Central Kansas Foundation in substance abuse ending as director of their outpatient program.

Her primary interests are in treatment of mood disorders (depression, anxiety, and anger), trauma, personality disorders, and substance use disorders. She also has an interest in family and marital therapy. She completes mental health evaluations, anger management evaluations, and substance abuse evaluations. Summer utilizes cognitive behavioral techniques as well as neurolinguistic programming, solution focused, and family systems theory approaches.

Summer has a love of nature and the outdoors. She also enjoys music and attending music festivals and concerts.
